We seek stories that move people. Subjects are chosen carefully based on

their passion and involvement, and their stories are meant to spark action among their audience. It could be a story about a hometown hero or a grassroots community effort, but at the end of the day, to share someone's story is to understand them - truly.

Having the Hard Conversations

We're not afraid to tackle subjects that may be controversial, polarizing, or heavy-hitting. We feature issues that are timely and relevant, with a person-focused approach. Characters guide the audience into an intimate look at broader issues, and remind them of the impact on the individual.

Offering a New Perspective

We believe a profound amount of research and learning is required with each individual project in order to adequately honor each story. We want to pursue subjects that require us to challenge our perception of the world, and to understand that there is nuance in every narrative. We come to each project expecting to learn something new.

OUR STORY

Light Theory started with humble roots during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally a photography studio focused on consumer portraits, Light Theory grew and expanded into a full-service media production company with a multi-award-winning film in less than two years.

We now focus on creating media with an impact.

This can mean a few things, but to us, it means we are doing work that delivers oversized value to our clients while promoting a greater good. Whether it is through promoting a company with good values, helping non-profits share their mission, or telling individual stories that need to be heard, we are here to support our clients' projects from start to finish.

"I began my journey in media with broadcast journalism over 10 years ago, with the Hawai'i-based eduprise Searider Productions and the PBS Hawai'i Learning Initiatives department, HIKI NŌ. It allowed me to tell important stories in my community, to dig deep for the most authentic answers, and most of all, it instilled in me a deep love for ethical and nuanced storytelling in the form of photography and film.

When I founded Light Theory, I knew this was what I wanted to continue doing: showcasing stories about our most human moments and, in turn, allowing nonprofits and social impact organizations connect their audience with their mission to help others. Informed, empathetic, and engaging storytelling is what I strive for."

Dylan Brownstein

"My background originally started in the world of start-ups, where I operated as both a founder and an investor for years before becoming introduced to the world of media production when I volunteered to be an assistant on a documentary shoot. From there, I quickly became more involved in media production, initially using my background in business and marketing to help shape media strategy and story-telling for client projects.

Over time, I became more involved on the production side as well, and I now lead photography at Light Theory in addition to managing client and media strategy. We take pride in making positive change for both individuals and society by finding stories that need to be told and bringing them to life in captivating ways."

Over time, my creative journey naturally expanded to include video production, as it’s a powerful tool for storytelling and branding.
